This is a rather ambitious project in Biblical scholarship. It is a topic that has always interested me. My plan is to investigate the origins, translations, and meanings of every book of the Bible. I will be using the King James version as the basis, but I will be including other translations and versions for scholastic integrity. I will be exploring the entire canon of scripture, which means that I will include books of the Catholic Bible that are not found in the King James Bible. I will also explore some extra-canonical books, but only as they pertain to interesting parts of the canon. I hope to discover some of the reasons they were not included.
This will not be an exploration in neutral voice. I warn you now that one of my goals is to provide alternate interpretations to those given by Evangelical sources. I have nothing against Evangelicals, but I think their interpretations have caused Christianity to seem rigid and exclusionary. I also do not believe that The Old Testament plays as big of a part in Christian life as Evangelicals do, and my exploration of that text will be with that in mind.
I am a liberal Christian, so if that bothers or offends you, I can save you some time. If it bothers or offends you and you still stay with me, good for you. I have a lot of respect for that. I am a preterist. That means that I believe that the prophecies of the Bible have already come to pass. I believe that Jesus came and went, returned, left, returned, and left again. I believe that the events described in the Revelation (Apocalypse) of St. John occurred in the First Century, A.D. This is another viewpoint that is likely not to sit well with Evangelicals. Further, I believe that the early church fathers may have been too zealous in their mission to exclude any source material that was even remotely connected to arianism and gnosticism.
Some posts will cover a few verses, some will cover entire chapters. The pacing will depend entirely on the source material I can drum up. It is not likely that I will be able to completely go in the order in which the books appear, so I will keep an index on this post.
If your'e still here, thank you for staying. I hope what you read here will be enlightening.
